Smaller Footprint

20ft Standard Container

The 20ft is the smaller of the two standard sizes. Inside, it measures about 19 ft 4 in long, 7 ft 9 in wide and 7 ft 10 in high, and it can be placed in spots a 40ft cannot reach.

It suits a renovation, seasonal equipment, or a business that has outgrown its back room. It needs 110 feet of straight clearance at the drop point.

Common Uses

  • ✓ A 20ft container in a Minneapolis driveway can hold furniture and boxes during a remodel or a move.
  • ✓ It can keep lawn equipment, bikes and patio furniture out of the snow through a Minnesota winter.
  • ✓ On a farm, it can keep seed, parts and tools dry between planting and harvest.
  • ✓ A builder can lock tools and materials in it on a residential job site for the length of the project.
  • ✓ At a lake cabin, it can store dock sections, kayaks and outdoor gear between seasons.
  • ✓ A shop or restaurant can use it for overflow inventory and seasonal stock behind the building.

Double the Space

40ft Standard Container

Twice the storage of a 20ft in the same width. The 40ft standard suits contractors, farms and businesses with large equipment or many pallets.

The trade is access. A 40ft needs 130 feet of straight clearance. On a constrained lot, two 20ft units may fit where one 40ft will not.

Common Uses

  • ✓ A farm can store implements, parts and bulk supplies in one locked 40ft container.
  • ✓ A general contractor can stage materials and tools on a commercial job site through a full building season.
  • ✓ A business can add room for inventory and packaging without renting a warehouse.
  • ✓ A family can store the contents of a whole house during a major renovation or a rebuild.
  • ✓ A resort or campground can store boats, dock sections and seasonal equipment over the winter.
  • ✓ A city, school district or county fair board can store equipment, furniture and event supplies in one place.

Most Space

40ft High Cube Container

Same footprint as the standard 40ft, one foot taller: 9 ft 6 in outside and about 8 ft 10 in inside. That foot can help with tall equipment and overhead services, while insulation and a finished floor reduce the available headroom.

The extra foot suits conversions such as offices, bunkhouses, break rooms and workshops. It needs the same clearance as any 40ft: 130 feet of straight run.

Common Uses

  • ✓ A workshop conversion keeps more headroom after the ceiling and floor are insulated for a Minnesota winter.
  • ✓ Taller equipment and stacked pallets fit under the higher roof.
  • ✓ Pallet racking can hold an extra level of inventory.
  • ✓ A plan for living space can start from high cubes to meet Minnesota's 7-foot minimum ceiling height after insulation.
  • ✓ A sports club or event crew can store tall displays, staging and equipment.
  • ✓ A farm can store tall implements or bulk supplies out of the weather.

Custom

Modified Containers

A modified container starts as a standard steel box and gains the parts you need: doors, windows, insulation, electrical, climate control. The result is a weatherproof structure that can be placed wherever the delivery truck can reach.

Which modifications matter depends on where it will sit. Insulation and ventilation are decided by climate, not preference, so tell us the site and the intended use before the specification is fixed.

Common Uses

  • ✓ A modified unit can serve as a heated job site office for a winter build in the Twin Cities.
  • ✓ A farm can use one as a lockable shop with a roll-up door, a workbench and lighting.
  • ✓ A business can set one up as a ticket booth, a concession stand or a pop-up shop with a service window.
  • ✓ Mining and forestry crews in northern Minnesota can use one as a field office or tool room.
  • ✓ A school or city can use one as secure storage with shelving and vents.
  • ✓ A lake property can use one as an insulated gear room with a personnel door.

Refrigerated

Refrigerated (Reefer) Containers

A reefer is a shipping container with a refrigeration unit built into one end. The insulation is part of the original build, not added afterwards.

Available in 20ft and 40ft. It needs a 480V 3-phase connection, or a compatible generator where 3-phase power is not on site. Confirm your power supply before ordering.

Common Uses

  • ✓ A meat processor or locker plant can add cold storage during the busy fall season.
  • ✓ An orchard, a vegetable farm or a farmers market vendor can keep produce cool between harvest and sale.
  • ✓ A caterer or event organizer can hold food on site at a summer festival, a county fair or a wedding venue.
  • ✓ A restaurant or grocery can add cold storage during a remodel or a busy season.
  • ✓ A food bank or distributor can stage chilled goods before they go out.
  • ✓ A florist or nursery can hold flowers and plants at a set temperature.

Required Straight Clearance

20ft
110 feet straight clearance
Measured from the drop point in a straight line
40ft
130 feet straight clearance
Standard and high cube both

Also check: at least 10 ft of width, at least 15 ft of driving height and at least 22 ft of height along the entire unloading path, plus the road surface. Gravel and dirt may be workable, but flag steep grades and soft ground before booking.
